
HISTORY
The right to health is a basic right of every Filipino as embodied in the constitution. Anchored on this legal provision, quality health care for all becomes a responsibility of the government. The government observed no less that the best services that health workers should extend, given the available human resources, facilities and logistics at a time.
Tarangnan, Samar is a 5th class municipality belonging to the 1st Congressional District of the Samar Province. It has forty-one (41) duly constituted barangays with a total land area of 10,417.1435 hectares and a population of 27,569 based on the latest (2017) PSA population survey. It is being served by its Municipal Health Office. They each serve as the center for health care delivery of the municipality, catering to simple emergency cases at all lowest levels.
As a Municipal Hospital, TCH envisions to a referral hospital of the Municipal Health Office comprised of the Health center and four (4) catchment Barangay Stations.

The Tarangnan Community Hospital was inaugurated in 1985 by virtue of Batas Pambansa Blg. 445, as Act establishing this ten-bed municipal hospital in the municipality of Tarangnan, Province of Samar. In 1991, with the enactment of the Philippine Local Government Code. TCH had since under the Provincial Government of Samar.

The Municipality of Tarangnan is geographically in the west portion of the island of Samar, bounded on the east by the municipality of Pagsanghan, on the south by the capital city of Catbalogan and on the west by the Samar Sea or Maqueda Bay. Tarangnan is accessible by either land or sea. The distance of the poblacion from the capital city of Catbalogan is about 36km and 59.75km away from Calbayog City. It can be reached through an 10.5km road from the Maharlika highway crossing Barangay Balugo by a provincial road.
The site of TCH is in Barangay B of the Poblacion, with a lot area of 1,850 sq. meters, acquired by the municipal government through a deed of donation. It has a concrete structure with floor area of 299 square meters. It is situated just adjacent to the Municipal Health Office hence referrals are no more convenient.

The hospital has an authorized bed capacity of 10 beds, licensed as primary by the Department of Health and is a Baby-Friendly Hospital. It caters to minor, surgical, medical, pediatric and OB-gyne cases, especially emergencies. It also has its Out-Patient Department. difficult or complicated cases are referred to the secondary/tertiary hospitals in Calbayog, Catbalogan or Tacloban City Leyte.

TCH provides hospital and emergency services to the 41 Barangays of Tarangnan. It also extends field health services with additional logistic support from the Provincial Government, its staff conducts medical missions to its catchment barangays.

​Tarangnan Municipal Hospital shall create, document, enforce, maintain and continuously improve its quality assurance program in line with the directives of the Department of Health PHIC and other regulatory bodies for the welfare of the clients as well as the general public.
